Ana is a group leader at the Centre for Oral Immunobiology and Regenerative Medicine, Institute of Dentistry.
Ana trained in dentistry in Lisbon, graduating with honours, before completing her PhD in Stem Cells and Regenerative Medicine in the laboratory of Professor Paul Sharpe at King’s College London in 2021, during which she was awarded the prestigious Sir Wilfred Fish Research Prize, King’s Outstanding Thesis Prize and the King’s Future Global Leaders Fellowship. She then remained at King’s as an NIHR Research Fellow, before moving as a JSPS Research Fellow to the laboratory of Dr Hironobu Fujiwara at the RIKEN Center for Biosystems Dynamics Research in Kobe, Japan. She subsequently established her independent group at Queen Mary. She also teaches and practises Oral Surgery at the Royal London Hospital (Barts Health NHS Trust) and is a member of the executive committee of the Barts Centre for Squamous Cancer. Ana is a member of the British Society for Developmental Biology and the British Society for Cell Biology.
